Services for Betty Roark, 84, of Browns Valley, Minnesota will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the United Methodist and Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Reverend Anna Williamson will officiate and burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery. Urn bearers will be Jacob Roark, Kevin Roark, Josh Roark Adam Roark, Travis Schaunaman, Devin Schaunaman, Zachary Schneider, Jordan Schneider and Lucas Schneider Betty Elaine Roark was born on September 6, 1928 in Browns Valley, Minnesota to William and Jennie (Halverson) Lowry. She attended school in Browns Valley, graduating from high school in 1947. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the Duffield Clothing Store and the Roxy Theater. On March 21, 1949 Betty was united in marriage to James Edward Roark in Beardsley, Minnesota. To this union five children were born: April Jeanette, who died shortly after birth, Michael James, Danny Fred, Claudia Jean, and Peggy Ann. Betty and Jim lived in Browns Valley until 1951 at which time they moved to their farm in Becker Township, South Dakota. In 1980 they built a new home, moving off the farm, but still residing in Becker Township. Jim died in April of 1998. Betty entered the Browns Valley Care Center in March of 2013. Betty was active in the United Methodist and Presbyterian Church. She was a former President of the U.M.W., Secretary of the U.M.P.W. Priscilla Circle, former Sunday School Superintendent of the U. M. Church, and Vice President of the U.M.P.W. She was also active in Bible Study and Prayer Circle. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed reading, painting, baking and collecting lighthouses. Betty Roark died on June 24, 2013 at the Browns Valley Care Center, having reached the age of 84. Cherishing her memory are her children: Rev. Michael (Maureen) Roark of Brighton, Ontario; Dan (Maria) Roark of Browns Valley, MN; Claudia (Mark) Schaunaman of Browns Valley, MN; and Peggy (Joel) Schneider of Oldham, SD; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her special brother, Jay Lowry of Rochester, MN; her sisters-in-law Dodie Roark of Browns Valley and Irene Lowry of Kasson, MN; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death was her husband, James, and her infant daughter, April.7
