Hazel J. Rourke was born August 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Inga (Mostad) Pederson Haaven, in Loma Township, Cavalier County, ND. She attended grade school there and graduated from Osnabrock High School in 1933. Interested in the nursing profession, she had one year of training before contracting rheumatic fever which forced her to give up her career goal. She was united in marriage to Howard Rourke on June 25, 1935. They farmed in Easby Township until retiring in 1992 when they moved to Grand Forks. She was known around the Osnabrock area for her beautiful flower gardens and she made sure there were fresh flowers on the church altar at Dovre Lutheran Church every Sunday during the summer season.
She was a member of the Dovre Lutheran Church of Osnabrock.
Hazel is survived by her daughters: Angela (Allan) Russell, Spring Hill, FL, Patricia Nybo, Grand Forks, ND, Judy (Russell) Schroeder and Susan Beach, both of Grand Prairie, TX; grandchildren: Teri (Joe) Torres, Michael (Rita) Russell, David Russell, Dennis (Alison) Nybo, Dawn (Robert) DeMers, Shannon (Shanda) Beach, and Jamie (Vincente) Torres; and great grandchildren: Melody, Corey, Jace, Bryce, Tyler, Cody, Adrianna, Kalob, Breauna, and Eli.
