Misc. Notes
Some documents say McGee and others McGie. I have seen another that says McKee. Daniel McGie, her brother in Quebec City, wrote his name as McGie as was the Scotch way of spelling the name. I suppose this was to separate himself from the Irish in the area who were McGee's. Their father, Edward used the McGie name spelling when signing documents. So, I would guess the technical answer to your question is McGie, however I use McGee/McGie when writing to anyone about this family. I notice that Daniel Parkinson in his book, uses the McGie spelling as Daniel McGie did. Since she signed her marriage record with an "X", she probably didn't know which was correct! Poor little lady! Edward McGee/McGie sent both of his sons to QC for schooling but could not even teach is daughter to sign her name! I hope at some time in her life, she learned to at least write her name!
If you want anything else on this family, I have tons of info! I am re-doing all my family books. I want to make it easier for my sons and their families to read and learn of these people.

Well, I think that Daniel is like am. I interchange it....not a good idea, but I get to typing and just do it. Many of them went to Michigan and beyond. Mary came to live with her youngest daughter Catherine and her husband Charles Cosens. They are my Gt-grandparent. Then poor Catherine got blood poisoning (a cut while washing clothes on a scrub board!) and lost her right arm and died 3 days later. Mary went to the county home as 2 of the girls had Typhoid fever (1 died) and there was no one to care for her.

When I was a young girl, I asked my dad about our family roots. He told me that we had a "little bit of Scotch". I had always wondered about that. He did not know much about his "Gt-Grandma Eveleigh" or anything about the McGie name. His mother Alma Cosens was the daughter of Catherine Eveleigh and her husband Joseph Cosens. Catherine died before 1897 and Mary died in 1903. My Dad was born in 1899 so this was well before his time. I will send you some info on the Charles Cosens family. I must have your email but send it to me and I will send it on its way. I have a picture of Catherine and Charles & family also.
