2012 ended for us on a sad note, as our nephew Brendan Rourke from Desboro, ON passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer. It began as a rare bone cancer in his pelvis, which spread to his lungs. Brendan transitioned into spirit ~ 2:45pm on Dec. 31st.
He was a bright, happy, talented 19-year old… a model student, well-loved by classmates and teachers (was high-school valedictorian), excelled at sports and was an amazing, self-taught electric/acoustic guitar player. Boy could those fingers fly! Despite ~2 years of copious amount of chemo/radiation and cutting-edge alternative therapies, Brendan’s body was not able to overcome this dreaded disease. Visitation will take this place this Thursday at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home in Owen Sound, ON, with the funeral taking place Friday. (time/location TBA). Throughout this journey, we truly appreciate your kind thoughts, prayers and donations for the various fundraisers that were held for Brendan and family.

Our shining star, Brendan James Rourke, passed away surrounded by the love of his family, at his home in Desboro, on Monday, December 31st, 2012. He was in his 20th year. Cherished son of Neal and Rosanne “Rose” Rourke (nee Heimbecker), of Desboro. Dear partner and best friend of Justine Larcheron. Loving brother of Adrienne Grady (Scott King), Philip Grady (Annette), of Desboro, Nick Rourke, of Owen Sound and Dana Rourke, of Waterloo. Special uncle of Brielle, Lily, Rimy and Marshall. Adored grandson of Bob Rourke (Peg Richardson), of Leith and Janet Hoyt (John), of Owen Sound. Brendan will be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his grandparents, Orval and Ida Heimbecker.
Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K – 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service for Brendan Rourke will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 4th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carrie Irwin officiating. Interment in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Holland Centre. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Children’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, Second Chance Kids or the O.S.C.V.I. Music Association as your expression of sympathy.
